What to Expect: Your Orthopedic Evaluation

Before surgery, our orthopedic team conducts a detailed and personalized evaluation to determine the best course of treatment. This includes:

  • Medical History – Gathering information about your overall health, previous treatments, and current symptoms.
  • Physical Examination – Assessing joint mobility, muscle strength, alignment, and areas of tenderness or stiffness.
  • X-rays and Imaging – Evaluating the extent of joint damage, deformity, and structural alignment.
  • MRI Scans (if required) – Providing a detailed view of the bone, cartilage, ligaments, and other soft tissues to assist in precise diagnosis.

Total Hip Replacement Surgery (Hip Arthroplasty)

Freedom from hip pain starts here.
Total hip replacement, or hip arthroplasty, involves replacing the damaged parts of the hip joint with durable, biocompatible prosthetic implants. The goal is to relieve pain, improve mobility, and restore joint function.

How the Procedure Works:

    1. The damaged femoral head (top of the thigh bone) is removed and replaced with a metal stem placed in the femur.

    2. A metal or ceramic ball is placed on top of the stem to function as the new joint head.

    3. The hip socket (acetabulum) is cleaned and fitted with a metal cup, sometimes secured with screws or cement.

    4. A plastic or ceramic spacer is placed between the ball and socket for smooth movement.

Is Hip Replacement Right for You?

Hip replacement may be recommended if you suffer from:

  • Chronic hip pain during daily activities or even at rest

  • Difficulty walking, standing, or bending

  • Stiffness and reduced range of motion

  • Poor response to physical therapy, medications, or walking aids

Ideal Candidates:
  • Typically aged 40 to 80, though surgeries are successfully performed in both younger and older patients

  • Diagnosed with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or post-traumatic arthritis

  • Individuals with degenerative joint diseases affecting quality of life

Post-Surgery Support and Physiotherapy

Recovery is just as important as the surgery itself. At Gopi Krishna Hospital, we offer comprehensive post-operative physiotherapy services designed to accelerate healing and restore mobility. Our expert physiotherapists provide both in-hospital sessions and home-based care to support patients at every stage of recovery. The focus is on promoting early and pain-free movement, improving joint flexibility, rebuilding muscle strength, and enabling a quicker return to daily activities. Through personalized rehabilitation plans, we ensure that each patient regains independence and confidence in their movement as early as possible.
